Chapter History

The Zeta Mu Sigma Alumnae Chapter was chartered on Saturday, November 5, 1983 by Dr. Mynora J. Bryant, 13th Northeast Region Syntaktes.  The ceremony was held in the Commonwealth Room of Newcomb Hall at the University of Virginia.  Chartered as the Charlottesville – Piedmont Alumnae Chapter, the charter officers were: Soror Loretta Salter, Basileus; Debra Barksdale, Anti-Basileus; Frauline Johnson, Grammateus; Catherine Jolley, Tamiochus and LaBonnie C. Allen, Epistoleus.

Sorors from Richmond, VA and Washington, DC witnessed this joyous occasion and celebrated with charter members at the beautiful reception that followed the ceremony.  November 5th began the journey of The Zeta Mu Sigma Alumnae Chapter in providing stellar service to the Charlottesville-Piedmont communities.

After several brief inactive periods, Sorors realized the importance of having The Zeta Mu Sigma Alumnae Chapter in the Charlottesville community and began the process of reactivating. In the months of August and September, Sorors Clarybel Peguero, Racquel Dozier, Nicole Gray & Sheronica Barcliff began to meet to plan and execute the return of The Zeta Mu Sigma Alumnae Chapter to the Charlottesville, VA community.  After careful planning and making a strong commitment, six Sorors reactivated The Zeta Mu Sigma Alumnae Chapter with the assistance and support of Valerie Tyler and Clarybel Peguero on December 1, 2008.  The reactivation members were: Sheronica Barcliff, Racquel Dozier, Nicole Gray, Alicia Hines, Kristin Jackson and Karla Smith.

The vision for The Zeta Mu Sigma Alumnae Chapter is to be a premiere chapter that works diligently & cooperatively with one another and other chapters to bring innovative programs and stellar service to Charlottesville, Harrisonburg and the Greater  Shenandoah Valley. Our goal is to achieve excellence through Greater Service and to accomplish Greater Progress within our community. Our vision encompasses leading by example & attracting women of like mind who are interested in serving their fellow man, woman and child through a strong and loving sisterhood.
