The Lovely Theta Lambda Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was chartered at the University of Virginia on December 5, 1980 by five phenomenal women: Deborah Barksdale, Carla Cowles, Frances Reynolds, Latanya Shepherdson, and Loretta Tillman.

James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA
The Lambda Iota Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. was chartered on the campus of James Madison University on December 3rd, 1989 by nine phenomenal women. In 1997, the chapter went inactive after the last member graduated. The chapter was reactivated in the Spring of 2007 and has continued to thrive.
The mission of the Lambda Iota Chapter is to "bridge the gap" between the James Madison community and the Harrisonburg community. The women of this chapter accomplish this through programs such as their annual Prom Dress Drive and taking part in community service that falls in line with the vision of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
